In the village of Börnichen, located between the valleys of the rivers Zschopau and Flöha and next to the hiking area „Bornwald“, the Schwarzmühle (lit. Black Mill) attracts curious and interested visitors. You will be able to meet the owner, Mr Martin who is capable of the rare handwork of engraving forms. Just like as in ancient times, you can observe how, for example, decorative moulds are made in order to give butter blocks a new decorative shape.
The fortress is equally beautiful and romantic, full of adventures and attractions. The one of a kind museum “Longing for Light” (German: Sehnsucht nach dem Licht) attracts its visitors with an outstanding selection of local handmade toys and popular arts which will be enjoyed by the whole family.
Not far away from Zschopau, the renaissance castle Augustusburg is very popular for day trips. Besides its interesting museums, such as the motorcycle museum, a hunting, animal and bird exhibition as well as a falcon yard, a rich variety of events takes place in and around the castle. The collection of horse drawn coaches includes luxury and travelling vehicles of the Court of Dresden from the 18th and 19th century.
Including the Church of St. Anne, the Adam-Ries-Museum and the Frohnauer Hammer (visitors’ mine).
